By controlling this slack, it creates a consistent, loose thread span between the button and the fabric-this becomes the functional thread shank.

Finishing: After the final stitch, a thread trimming mechanism (often a small knife) cleanly cuts both the needle and bobbin threads. The remaining threads are pulled taut, and the secured knot settles within the fabric layers, leaving the button attached with a uniform shank.

Pattern Cam or Digital Control: Determines the stitch sequence (e.g., 2-hole vs. 4-hole patterns) and the movement of the button clamp.
